In this week’s feature of bloggers we love, we spoke to Gabby from Flat 15 about how she got into blogging about interiors and where she finds inspiration for her interior design projects.
Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
My name is Gabby and I am an interior stylist and art consultant. I also publish the Interior & Lifestyle blog FLAT 15 where I share my inspiration for great design and happy living!
When did you start blogging and why?
I started blogging about a year and a half ago. Up until that point I had been working within art in London and I was slowly taking on consulting and styling projects. During this transitional time in my life, I needed a place to chronicle my ideas and inspiration. I decided to start my blog and from there it became a destination for all the things I love which are design & style related!
How did you decide to blog about interiors?
I am really passionate about design and always have been. I always had friends and family asking me to help with designing their homes or to even style their tables for parties. Since I love interiors so much, it became a really natural topic to write about and also really enjoyable!
How do you select what topics/material to publish on your blog?
Since I started, I only write about the items, people, design and styles that inspire me. I also try to put out as much original content as I can, so I am always thinking of fresh ways to present the decor that I am passionate about.
What advice would you give to people looking to start a blog?
My advice is to always be yourself and allow the blog to reflect who you are! There are a lot of great blogs out there and it is easy to get caught up in the styles of other sites that are successful! During my time blogging, I have found that I am most drawn to sites by people who have a unique style and who stay true to their own particular aesthetic, so I focus on doing the same for mine.
How would you describe your interior style?
My interior style is a mix of contemporary eclectic. I love bright spaces with lots of greenery but also love to incorporate vintage or eclectic pieces into the mix.
Where do you find inspiration?
Absolutely everywhere! I am probably most often inspired by fashion, looking at style trends like geometric shapes or vibrant saturated fabrics that give me ideas for interior projects! I also am very inspired by my travels and love to include original pieces from trips within my home.
Can you describe the style of your current bedroom?
The style of my bedroom is best described as natural and calming. I have mixed shades of greys and whites with natural wood furniture, to keep a peaceful feel to the space, which I think is so important for your bedroom as it’s where you unwind.
What interior objects are you lusting over right now?
Anything copper! This metallic shade is my current favourite and I cannot seem to get enough of it at the moment!
What interior trends are you looking forward to in 2016?
The colour pink is really having a moment right now. I love soft shades of this colour and look forward to seeing it used in a contemporary and dynamic ways, without being overly feminine.
Which article on flat 15 would you consider your favourite?
I love before and afters because the result is usually pretty shocking and super inspiring. One of my favourites is when I created a gallery wall in my home… I loved the outcome!
What is your next interior project?
I am currently working on an interior project in East London. It is a lofty space which has been stripped backed to retain its industrial character. Think exposed brick walls and copper piping. I am really excited to see the final design and can’t wait to share it on the blog!
